MISSOURI - Missouri voters have spoken and the results from Tuesday's election are in.
Democrat Barack Obama will be the next president. Democrat Jay Nixon will soon be moving to the Missouri Governor's Mansion. And in an upset, Democrat Chris Kelly defeated Republican incumbent Ed Robb in the 24th district state representative race. And, Republican-turned-Democrat Chris Koster defeated Republican Mike Gibbons in the race to replace Jay Nixon as Attorney General.
But it wasn't a clean sweep for Democrats in the state. Republican incumbent Peter Kinder will be able to keep his spot as Lieutenant Governor. In a long and hard fought battle for both campaigns, Republican Blaine Luetkemeyer defeated Democrat Judy Baker in the race to fill Kenny Hulshof's congressional seat. An Republican Sam Graves held off Democrat Kay Barnes to win a fifth term in his northwest Missouri congressional district.
Along with Proposition A, Missouri voters also passed Propositions B and C. Proposition A will increase gambling loss limits for Missouri casinos, Proposition B creates the Missouri Quality Home Care Council, and Proposition C requires investor-owned electric utilities to generate or purchase a certain percentage of their electricity form renewable energy sources. Voters also passed Amendment 1 and Amendment 4. Amendment 1 deals with making English the official language at all government meetings in the state. Amendment 4 affects the financing of storm water projects.
