COLUMBIA - After a big recall it may be time to check Fido or Fluffy's food.
This is a nationwide precautionary recall but it has the potential to be very big. It involves an ingredient in cat and dog foods produced by Menu Foods Income Fund -- and it provides ingredients for dozens of dog and cat food brands.
The company issued the recall after getting reports that some dogs and cats died after eating the food. Stores like one in Columbia have already taken steps to get the food off the shelves.
The company says the ingredient is in the "cuts and gravy" style pet food -- sold in cans and pouches.
"They get a customer for years if they do this... because then they know if something is wrong, they're going to say it," said pet owner Suzanne Henage.
