COLUMBIA-- It's no secret the Missouri offense is going to have a different look this season. It seems that this season one backup in the Missouri backfield is going to play a big role.
It's no secret the Missouri offense is going to have a different look this season. It seems that this season one backup in the Missouri backfield is going to play a big role.
The first thing you need to figure out, when you meet number 26, is how to pronounce his name.
"I never really asked I just kind of heard people and then heard him correct people," says Missouri Center Tim Barnes. Â
"I thought it was Dev-ion, to be honest because it has an apostrophe, i-o-n, because I have a brother named Devin, its d-e-v-i-n," says fellow Missouri running back Derrick WashingtonÂ
Moore's first name is pronounced Devon, but it's spelled De'vion, the apostrophe is silent, but to moore is speaks volumes.
"That's what they wanted to name me, they wanted me to be different, you can be a Devon you can still be different, you can be your own individual, so I take it as that," Moore says.Â
His name's memorable, and so was his first touchdown run.
Last season against Colorado, Moore rumbled 55 yards against the Buffaloes.
"It was me one-on-one with the safety and after that it was just who had the speed, who is going to make the play and at that point in time in my mind I just said I'm going to score this touchdown," Moore said.Â
Mizzou's looking for more from Moore this season.
"He's got that smaller build, he's a little shifty, he runs hard, he's a good hard worker and its fun to block for people like that," Barnes said.Â
"He's quick and elusive, he always makes the first guy miss, he gets around the edge, that's what I like about him," Washington said.Â
What Moore didn't like about himself was an anger issue he had in his teenage years.
"He said he used to fight all the time, when he was little he had a temper problem, he was all going off on people and everything, you know, IÂ can't tell that at all right now, he's so calm and collected, but if somebody ticks him off then it comes back, but he's calmed down a lot," Washington said.Â
Calm off the field, but a fireball on it. Moore rushed for 231 yards last season and he led the team in rushing against Southeast Missouri State.Â
You might not know his name now... But by the end of the season he plans to make it really simple.
"Everybody right now just called me D-Mo, thats simple for them, easy for them they call me D-Mo or Devon, that's about it,"Â Moore said.Â
