SEDALIA (AP) - Congressman Ike Skelton is warning that insurgents in Iraq could attempt an attack comparable to the Tet offensive in Vietnam. Skelton is chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. He's concerned that foes of the United States could step up their attacks to influence a progress report due to President Bush and Congress in September. Skelton also is concerned the political leadership in Iraq may not be able to pull together the various factions that are responsible for much of the recent violence. Skelton's concerns were echoed today by Republican Senator Kit Bond and Democrat Senator Claire McCaskill. Bonds says that if the Iraqi government can't get more control, it could be time for new elections. Skelton and the senators spoke today at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.
