COOPER COUNTY - Boonville wants to expand its borders, and the city has a plan for the area southeast of the city.

The area at issue stretches as far south as Interstate 70 and north towards Jackson Road, also including Rankin Mill Lane. But residents around there are wondering what they get out of the deal.

There are concerns from the homeowners who live in the proposed annex area. Some are angry and confused by the city's plan.

Cooper County resident Chris Amsbury, who lives on the corner of Jackson and Kathryn Road, wonders where the sewer system will be put, and he worries about the condition of Jackson Road if it is annexed.

"If I had to ask the mayor or some type of city official a question, it would focus more or less on just the traveling and the speed rate and overall improvement of that road," Amsbury said.

"Jackson Road would become jurisdiction of the city and if the city committed to bringing Jackson Road up to a full city street with three lanes, curb, and gutter, it would be a nice functional street for these residents," according to Boonville City Counselor Megan McGuire.

The proposed annexation would add about 1300 acres to the city. City officials want the annexation to foster growth, while the residents worry about quality of life.
