MID-MISSOURI - Drivers are going to want to be extra careful on their ways to work Wednesday morning.
The entire northwest corner of Missouri's roads are covered with snow. Downtown Moberly had strong winds and about 1.5 inches of snow had fallen by 7 a.m. Wednesday. The wintry mix continued to move further southeast toward Columbia all Tuesday night.
The snowfall marks the first wave of winter weather for Missouri this December. The Missouri Department of Transportation reported snow caused more than 2,500 car accidents last year.
MoDOT has 3,000 workers and 1,800 vehicles available for snow removal throughout the state. Experts say when driving over snow covered roads it's best to always assume ice is underneath, and with Tuesday's rain, that may very well be the case.
