OSAGE RIVER - Mark Schnieders doesn't worry about his business flooding.

He can see the muddy water out his back door, but his business is next to a wet land.

"We're up pretty high up here so we don't have much to worry about but it does get up, as you can see behind us, it does get back up the fields and stuff down here," said Business owner Mark Schneiders.

But on the other side of the river, residents like Vicki Phillips prepare for the annual battle.

A veteran, Phillips timed the water as it rose a foot an hour Tuesday.

"If waters keep increasing at their constant rate, Vicki predicts this entire area will be under water by morning," Phillips said.

With the water creeping up her back yard, Phillips does her best to prepare.

"We moved everything from the dock and pavillion here up above to the house and then we just kind of wait and watch to see if we have to move everything in the basement up to storage or on top of the main level there."

These trees mark the river bank. Her advice for anyone living in a flood area.

"Build high," Phillips said. "You know it's a beautiful place 90% of the time. It's just the 10% you have to put up with floods."

After 14 years and despite 4 major floods, Vicki says she'll keep her place in the flood plain.

Phillips says many of the lower houses in her area are sand bagging but since her house is so high , sand bags would be useless, if the water reaches it.
