ST. LOUIS (AP) - The power is back on at St. Louis' medium-security jail, after a fatal crash caused the lights to go out. The accident Sunday night happened when a 1999 Saturn struck a utility pole with a mounted electrical transformer near the jail. The impact caused the car to split in half. The driver of the car was killed. He is identified as 18-year-old Dayrl Cook. The passenger, 18-year-old James Teague, is in stable condition. Police say the wreck knocked out power at the jail, and the backup generators failed to work. AmerenUE workers responded and eventually restored power.
