COLUMBIA - The application deadline for Columbia's Superintendent is approaching.

Thursday was community members' last chance to express their concerns.

Ten residents came to the forum on Thursday. Two residents came to Wednesday's forum.

Attendees stressed visibility and communication as qualities the new superintendent must have.

The goal of the forum was for citizens to express what they need the superintendent to be. Other qualities parents and teachers stressed were to have knowledge of school finance and someone whose main concern is the kids.

One parent even expressed for the new superintendent to use this opportunity to raise the bar on Columbia's education.

Phil Peters, a Columbia parent said, "It's also an opportunity, and I'd really like to see the new superintendent to use the opportunity to look outside of Columbia; find successful methods that are really working and raise the level of achievement here in Columbia," Peters said.

The deadline to apply is Jan. 16, and finalists will be interviewed in February.
