COLUMBIA -- Tuesday is Earth Day, but one school doesn't need a day to help the planet, they're doing it year round.
They call themselves the green team, and they have a green message.
"For me green is doing little things to make the earth a better place," Sarah Dweik, a student on the Green Team, said.
This Smithon Middle Schooler knows all about being green.
"I just wanted to. It was just a feeling that came that you need to join the Green Team; you need to do something," Dweik said.
As part of the Green Team, students are learning about the environment, the planet and teaching others.
"Today we helped people make things out of natural materials," said Amy Company, a Smithton Middle School teacher.
Students are creating art for the earth.
"Nature has surprises, and you just have many things you can make out of simple everyday things," Dweik said.
"You can help people make them, and you can make art and really cool things you can actually play with and you can make them right around your house," said Haley Benson, a student on the Green Team.
"They're all about making things, which really fits in well with what I thought my strengths were as an art teacher. That was something. I think art makes a really big statement about life," Company said.
And with a model of a "cool" globe, these students are trying to mold a future without global warming.
"I hope people are thinking, 'Wow, is that really what's happening?'" Dweik said.
They hope people will learn a lesson and make a change.
"Well, I know a lot of people have been oohing and ahhing at it, and I know everyone wants to touch it, but there is a big 'Do not touch' sign." Dweik said, referring to the globe.
"Everyone has been like, 'Wow, that globe is so cool.'" Company said.
"I like the little metal part that's around the middle of the globe, and it's just green in different languages." Dweik said.
No matter how you spell or say it, these students are a perfect example of how we could all be more green.
So far they've inspired school-wide recycling and they also adopted an acre of rain forest.
