MOBERLY- Police confirm the deaths of a 56-year-old female and an 18-year-old female. The fire started at 2 a.m. and was extinguished by 6 a.m. Thursday.

Officials say a 26-year-old at the residence escaped the fire with minor injuries. A Moberly fire fighter was also injured during a fall and was treated on the scene by paramedics. The Mid-Missouri Chapter of the American Red Cross was on scene to provide assistance to the survivor and fire fighters.

Neighbors say they heard a series of explosions and saw debris and flames flying. Extended family of the homeowners tell KOMU that oxygen tanks were inside the house at the time of the explosion.

Authorities suspect the fire started in the kitchen and completely engulfed the house before crews could arrive. They say the house is a total loss.

Autopsies will be performed Friday. Authorities will not comment on the cause or if foul play was involved.
