BOONVILLE - The Missouri Agriculture Department rolls out a new program: Eat Local and Buy Missouri.
Peach Tree Farm was on the tour to showcase the capacity of Missouri Farms. The farm is predicted to produce nearly 200,000 pounds of peaches this year, compared to just seven peaches last year, according to owner Bruce Arnett.
Early rain helped increase this year's peach crop.
High demand for local food keeps Arnett busy, and a five dollar increase per 10 pounds of peaches hasn't stopped consumers from buying.
"There is a high demand," said Arnett. "Even though we got a record crop this year, we have a high demand. That's why we are selling out everyday."
In 2005, 2,000 people visited the Columbia Farmer's Market. Between 2006 and 2007, the number of people visiting the market grew to 3,200 people. And so far this year, 4,200 people have visited the farmers market.
Missouri Farmer's Market Week begins Sunday.
