Judge Kevin Crane signed a restraining order Wednesday closing the home. Under the temporary restraining order, the home is essentially on lock down. That means the owners of the funeral home can not operate what so ever. The order came after Attorney General Jay Nixon filed a lawsuit last week to shut down the chapel. Nixon alleges the funeral home mishandled six bodies in its care.

"After we filed the lawsuit we received many complaints from consumers that brought more information to our attention," said Scott Holste of the Attorney General's office. "We believed then it was important to try and get this temporary restraining order."

The attorney general's office says, in one case, a body remained in the funeral basement, un-refrigerated for nearly a year. An investigation also found the home gave the family of that person the ashes of someone's elses body. Now, dozens of other families are concerned about the remains of their loved ones.

"When families lose a loved one, they're often in an unguarded position and it's very important that the attorney general believes that these people need protection," said Holste.

Neither of the owners showed up in court today but were represented by their attorney. Both defendants and prosecutors agreed to the temporary restraining order. Under the lawsuit, the home will close until it passes inspection and can demonstrate compliance with the law. At the end of the 15 days, Crane will hold a hearing to decide whether to let the home reopen.

After the Attorney General filed the lawsuit, Holste said the office got complaints from 15 to 20 consumers.
