COLUMBIA, Mo - A central Missouri funeral home accused of improperly handling bodies has agreed to close for 15 days as a state investigation continues. Warren Funeral Chapel Inc. agreed during an emergency court hearing Wednesday to shut down effective immediately. The state attorney general's office says it found a decaying woman's body that had been stored in an electrical room at the funeral home for 10 months without being embalmed or refrigerated. The state filed a lawsuit on Friday that identifies several examples of bodies left outside refrigerators and not embalmed for more than 24 hours. Inspectors also found a garbage bag filled with organs in the funeral home's basement. The lawsuit also accuses the funeral home of embalming bodies when the contract called for cremation and of not properly cleaning the business.
