CARROLLTON - Carrollton is not usually a river town, but it is today.

The Missouri River, normally ten miles away, is lapping at the city limits.

"There's farm ground, all corn fields all over in here," said Carrollton Fire Chief Curtis Shields. "There's many acres of corn, wheat, all been lost"

For firefighters like Shields, the flooding is all too familiar. He has seen flooding here in '93, '95 and now again.

The town levee failed. When flood waters shut down Highway 10 south of town and stranded two truckers, it came as no surprise. There are nearly three feet of water covering highways and farmland surrounding the town and another two inches of rain fell today, leaving residents to pray for a drier forecast.
