With the presidential election just 97 days away, both candidates are campaigning hard for votes all over the country, and they are certainly not ignoring Missouri.

Missouri has voted for the winning presidential candidate in every election, except one, in the past 100 years.

And yesterday, both Obama and McCain were in Missouri.

Obama visited the south and south-central part of Missouri and said McCain's strategy is just simply trying to scare people.

"They're gonna try to say I'm a risky guy. They're gonna try to say, 'Well, you know, he's got a funny name. And he doesn't look like all the presidents on the dollar bills and the five dollar bills,'" Obama said.

Senator Obama said change is always risky, but as he told Missourians yesterday, it's an even bigger risk to stick with the same leadership that has gotten America into trouble.

John McCain ran a negative ad in response to the ad Obama ran at the start of July.

In his ad, McCain has to cut Obama down to size because of his celebrity status, which could translate into electability.

McCain's ad tries to make an indirect comparison between Obama and pop icons Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

"He's the biggest celebrity in the world. But, is he ready to lead...higher taxes, more foreign oil, that's the real Obama," McCain said.

Obama responded to the negative ad briefly at an event in Union, Missouri.

"And they're gonna send out nasty e-mails. And, yeah, the latest one, they got me in an ad with Paris Hilton. You know? Never met the woman...He seems to only be talking about me. You need to ask John McCain what he's for and not just what he's against," Obama said.

But McCain's campaign release a memo, saying of Obama, "like most worldwide celebrities, this status has fueled a certain arrogance."

And yesterday the Washington Post called Obama "presumptuous" and that "you gotta be pretty arrogant to think you can be President of the United States. So it almost comes with the territory for anyone who runs the presidency. You're just not supposed to show the arrogance."

And last night, John McCain  hosted a fundraiser in Kansas City.

He continued on his theme of recent weeks, saying that Obama doesn't understand the current issues.

McCain says his experience has prepared him, but he's still a "maverick."

"I don't work for a party. I don't work for a President. I don't work for a special interest, and I don't work for myself. I work for you and the country that we love," McCain said.

McCain is trying to appeal to the independents who will most likely decide the fate of this presidential election.

McCain continues to tell people that Obama will not be able to do the job of president.

"He doesn't seem to understand that the policies he offers would make our problems worse and not better," McCain said.

McCain is also trying to cater to the conservative base, as he recently addressed the issue of taxes.

"I want to look you in the eye. I will not raise your taxes nor support a tax increase. I will not do it, " McCain said.

McCain also promised to "put everything on the table" to solve the Social Security issue.

And finally, Obama gave one member of the audience his popular "fist bump" at his campaign stop in Springfield.
