FORT LEONARD WOOD - The Fifth Engineer Batallion prepares to head to Iraq, and family and friends gathered to say goodbye.

The "Fightin' Fifth" are deploying sometime in the next few weeks for its third tour in Iraq.

Army officials say the battalion is scheduled to help with route clearance and construction operations.

Some of the more than 400 soldiers have already served in previous tours, but they are still determined to help the Iraqui people.

"I think the most important thing that Americans could gather would be that Iraqis are just like us," Staff Sargent Walter Oriet of the Fifth Battalion said. "They want the something that we want, they want their freedom, they want a place to live, they want to be with their families and they want to be able to enjoy that without having to fight for it all the time."

The tour is expected to last about 15 months, and the exact date of departure is being withheld for security reasons.
