COLUMBIA - On a 3-2 vote Wednesday night, the board of the Boone County Fire Protection District picked Scott Olsen as its new chief.

Olsen becomes the third fire chief to lead the organization. He had been serving as the interim fire chief since last December and has been with the department since 1985. Olsen was also the first Missouri Task Force One Leader.

According to a release from the Boone County Fire Protection District, the process ended after a two day assessment center and interview process, closed board meetings and nearly 11 months.

The other candidate, Assistant Chief Kenneth Craft from Bonita Springs, Florida was not present at the meeting on Wednesday evening.
