PULLMAN, WA - Washington State University officials have tapped U of M President Elson Floyd to be the next President at the west coast school. One day later, Floyd is back in Missouri.
When asked why he decided it was the right time to leave Missouri, Floyd did not answer directly. Instead he said the work he had accomplished in Columbia was important and ongoing. Floyd said he has not talked to UM curators about a timetable for his departure. Washington State officials have not set a start date either.
Floyd is a North Carolina native who spent three years at Eastern Washington University. He became executive vice president during his time there. Before becoming the president of the University of Missouri system in November 2002, Floyd was the president of Western Michigan University.
Commenting in Columbia, MU Chancellor Brady Deaton praised Floyd's entrepreneurial spirit for higher education, his openness, and his strategic planning ability.
