COLUMBIA - Soon you may not need a car to safely cross some of Columbia's biggest intersections.
Getting around Columbia isn't easy for someone walking or riding their bike, but "Get about Columbia" is trying to make it easier.
The Federal Highway Administration is paying for the $22 million non-motorized pilot program.
So far, "Get about Columbia" has 125 miles of road in the works
- 66 miles of streets will be for striped bike lanes
- 23 miles of streets will be marked as bike routes
- 19 miles will be for multi-use paths and trails
- 900 new bicycle parking spots are going to be created downtown.
The intersections include Providence Road at Business Loop 70, Garth at Business Loop 70, Providence Road at Green Meadows Road, and College Avenue at Rogers Street.
