MACON - The I-70 improvement project seems to take all the construction headlines lately and another mid-Missouri makeover has drivers talking.

Macon resident Keith White practically has club seats for a mega-million-make over. Contractors just finished resurfacing much of Route 63 near his produce store in downtown Macon.

"We really need that for this area. It'll helped this area a lot," said White.

"There is a tremendous amount of work going along the entire stretch from Iowa to the Boone County line," said MoDOT district engineer Daniel Niec.

Drivers use fresh asphalt now in Macon and Randolph counties, and will have more in Adair county later this year.

"We're very fortunate to get these nice roads around here, I think," said White.

Construction has several stretches down to one lane with a 55 mph speed limit. Both White and MoDOT said that hasn't been a problem.

"People shouldn't have to leave any extra time, just be careful as you travel through the work zones," said Niec.

MoDOT said the projects underway should be finished by later this summer.

"The section from Moberly to Boone County should be finished in just a few weeks," said Niec.

That leaves what White described as a much better ride behind.
