JEFFERSON CITY - Belair Elementary School is one of Jefferson City's largest elementary schools,but it has one of the smallest media centers for the number of students.
"It's very difficult for the media center specialist to get a group of students in here to give instruction, and then they have to try to maneuver around to check out books," said Principal Marcella Jordan. "It's very difficult. The media center should be able to hold two classrooms. It just barely holds one."
Belair Elementary has 500 students, but its media center has only four computers.
The school board will meet Tuesday night to discuss a $29 million bond issue for improvements. The board said the bond won't require a tax increase.
And, members said the district's 11 elementary schools all need more room.
"We don't have the space to go to full-day kindergarten right now so, in order to get that space, we're having to add classrooms," said Assistant Superintendent Turner Tyson.
If the board approves the bond issue, it could go to district voters in April 2007.
