MOBERLY - Randolph County Caring Community is coordinating a summer free lunch program for everyone 18 and younger.

The program is meant to help bridge the gap during the summer when kids are not in school to receive the free and reduced meal program.

56.3 percent of Moberly Public School District students are qualified for the program during the school year. The program is funded by the US Department of Agriculture and aims to provide at least one meal for children in need.

"By operating at several different sites throughout the community within each school district in Randolph County, we're able to ensure that there's a site pretty centrally located to most of the housing developments and areas in our community, so they can generally walk if there's not a vehicle or transportation available," said program director Shelly Freeman.

Each week the program enlists volunteers from various local organizations to bring lunches to the five locations in Randolph County.  The program is offered in various areas that are in the most need.

These area include:
-Moberly Public Library
- Project Jumpstart in Allendale
- YMCA
- South Park Elementary School
- Huntsville Public Library

The program has summer youth workers who are preparing the meals.  Their wages are funded using federal stimulus dollars which are also helping to keep the cost of the program low.  The youth is learning valuable work skills in the process.
