The Center for Health Transformation, founded by Gingrich, is a national program helping create solutions to health care issues. Better health care for patients and lower costs are the goals.

Gingrich spoke with Missouri Health Professionals and legislators Wednesday about his health care concerns. One of his biggest projects is Alzheimer's research and awareness.

"We have tragically few gerontologists and tragically few people who understand Alzheimer's because it doesn't pay and it's much better to be a surgeon than an Alzheimer's specialist," Gingrich said. "Yet we have 5.5 million Alzheimer's patients today and the number is growing."

According to the Center of Health Transformation, people need to collaborate and bring their best ideas to transform health.

"Our goal is 100 percent coverage," Julie Eckstein, the center's director, said. "We feel strongly that everyone needs to be in the market. Everybody needs to have access to quality health care."

Missouri legislators agree that action to improve medical care is needed.

"We should continue to find ways to use new technology to prevent medical provider fraud and we should try to root it as efficiently as we can," said Rep. Chris Kelly, D-Columbia. "We should also focus on insuring more low income adult parents because they are workers and it comes right down to the root of the economy."

Former Speaker Gingrich hopes to improve health physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. With the importance of transparency, patients need to have access to information about medical costs and quality. He hopes his improvement plans will be implemented in the near future to help Missouri and other states across the nation.
