MID-MISSOURI - As the price of gasoline rises, so do the number of requests KOMU 8 receives to get to the bottom of an alleged collusion among gas stations.

"In general I just don't understand the economy is the way it is."

"More than anything I would like to know why we're paying such grossly high amounts for gas. ."

"I think the gas is one of the things you need to worry about. We need it for our life..it is apart of our life. It's so very expensive."

If you filled up today or anytime this week, you know gas prices are pushing 3.40 a gallon.

"What's always interesting to me is to see what the difference is between Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. That might be interesting to see because sometimes I notice that Missouri is a lot lower than Illinois. Just kind of what the other states have... that's what I'd like to see."

Darrell Wainscott wrote us about gas prices calling it price fixing.

"So it could not be supply and demand as they have tried to get us to believe in the past. I do believe that it is called price fixing and I did think that price fixing was against the law. "

So why doesn't KOMU investigate these allegations of gas price fixing?

"Most people want us to find out why it is why gas prices are what they are, if they are fixed between the different gas producers," said KOMU 8 News Director Stacey Woelfel. "The real answer is they are private companies and we don't have any access to oil companies or gas companies. So it is not possible for us to turn a story today about that."

If you'd like to report an inconsistency in gas prices, you can contact the Missouri Attorney General's office by clicking on the link to the left of this story.
