COLUMBIA - The magic mark for speed in sports is to run the 40 yard dash in 4.4 seconds.

Before the season, Jeremy Maclin ran the 40 in 4.3 seconds.

Jeremy Maclin carries a lot of labels, some of which include lightning fast, great receiver, and special-return man.

"I'm not superstitious," said sophomore wide receiver Jeremy Maclin. "But at the same time, if I have some cleets I play fairly well in, I'll probably wear them again. I'll probably keep wearing them until the luck falls off of them."

If the shoe fits, Maclin wears it.

"Let me see what I have in here," says Maclin as he opens his closet.

J-Mac has 45 pairs of shoes in his Columbia closet! He keeps them in clear cases.

"That's just what type of guy he is, " said junior linebacker Sean Weatherspoon. "He's just a neat guy that always has nice shoes on his feet, but he's really addicted to Michael Jordans."

He owns every pair of Jordans ever made.

"Jordan aisle...another jordan aisle," said Maclin going through his closet.

It all started in his junior year of high school.

"I'll buy a pair of shoes just because I have a new outfit I want to wear with them. And I might not ever wear those shoes again," Maclin said.

His favorite pair is an "old-school" Air Max.

"As you can tell, these are my favorite pair of shoes because these are the dirtiest ones," said Maclin.

Sean Weatherspoon is number 9's roommate. And he doesn't get to borrow any shoes.

"Nah, my foot is too big," said Weatherspoon. "He wears like a 10 and a half. Like a little girl man."

"I think it looks good," Maclin said. "Nobody wants to have those big clown feet walking out there tripping over you. Spoon has those big clown feet. Real wide, too."

J-mac doesn't know why he likes shoes so much. But he admits he's only worn some pairs once.

"A shoe could look perfectly fine to somebody else, but if the white looks kinda dirty I might not wear them again," Maclin said.

Air Force Ones. Jordans. And Vans.

"Don't let people step on them," Maclin said. "I get mad when people step on my shoes."

It's fair to say Maclin has plenty of sole.

"This is my obsession. Some people collect post cards or stamps or rocks. I collect shoes," said Maclin.

And touchdowns.

Maclin says the most he's ever paid for a pair of shoes is a little more than 200 dollars. But price isn't that important. Jeremy's favorite pair only cost him 45 dollars.
