COLUMBIA- With Saturday's loss to Texas, the Missouri football team finished a tough three game stretch against some of the best teams in the Big 12 Conference.

It's over. Missouri finished its toughest three weeks in Big 12 play 0-3. The team moves on to what may seem easier conference opponents in Colorado, Baylor, and Kansas State. But, the only smiles at Faurot Field belonged to the Longhorns.

"Just, you know, a fun game. Just kinda get out there, get it rolling quick. Those are a lot more fun for us. You know, when we feel like we don't have to scratch and claw the whole game," Texas wide receiver Jordan Shipley said.

"Tonight, I felt like our offense got really close to where we should be. First half, I don't know that we could have played a better first half," Texas quarterback Colt McCoy said.

In a game some fans expected to be close, the Longhorns shut down any opportunity for a Tiger upset from the first play of the game. And, Texas coach Mack Brown said that is exactly what he wanted to see in Columbia.

"When you're on the road, the crowd's excited, it's their homecoming. They're hungry for a win after the two tough losses. And, our offense has not been starting well and our defense has not been starting well. We thought that was a key tonight, to come in with a swagger. Come in excited about the game and be ready to play," said Brown.

That first play of the game? A 31-yard bullet from McCoy to Shipley. From there, the Tigers had no answer as Texas pounded the endzone. Even with Jared Perry's 11 yard touchdown reception briefly reviving the crowd.

"They're really good. Ok? I'm not taking anything away from that, but I expect my football team to play a lot better than that. I don't care who we're playing. I don't care if it's the New England patriots, I expect us to play better than that," Missouri coach Gary Pinkel said.

Blaine Gabbert left the game in the third quarter, but insisted it wasn't his creaky ankle behind the offense's poor start.

"I'm not gonna harp on my ankle. That's not me. Just adversity that our team has to face. We faced adversity there tonight and we couldn't, didn't really handle it very well," said Gabbert.

Adversity in the form of Texas, a possible national championship contender.
