WASHINGTON - Five Democratic Presidential Candidates, including front-runners Barack Obama and John Edwards, want their names withdrawn from Michigan's January 15th primary.
After Michigan moved its primary up, Democrats are fighting back by saying they'll take their name off the ballot, thereby making the state meaningless. But others say it's a plan to take Michigan off the map since they'll have trouble beating Hillary Clinton there.
It also gives early states, namely Iowa, more clout. Still, the latest Des Moines register Iowa poll shows Clinton taking the lead with 29 percent of likely caucus goers. But 63 percent of Iowans voting against Clinton say it's because of her polarizing reputation. Barack Obama and John Edwards trail Clinton, but the latest Iowa poll still puts the race at a statistical tie.
Meanwhile, 80-percent of Republicans have an unfavorable opinion of Hillary Clinton, but only half of Republicans polled dislike Obama or Edwards.That's why the front-runner nationally among Republicans, Rudy Giuliani, uses the name Hillary Clinton so much in debates.
He says "if we do Hillary care or socialized medicine, Canadians will have no place to go to get their health care."
And while Mitt Romney, the leading Republican in both Iowa and New Hampshire, takes shots at Clinton. He amped up his disagreement with Rudy Giuliani during Tuesday's debate in Detroit.
"It's baloney. Mayor, you've got to check your facts. No taxes, I did not increase taxes in Massachusetts. I lowered taxes," said Romney.
And while disagreement runs deep between and among parties, Barack Obama is calling for a different type of campaign, because he says he's a different type of candidate. Calling it 40 days of faith and family, Obama delivered a campaign message in a church that's pretty rare for Democrats.
"I just want all of you to pray that I can be an instrument of god,'' said Obama.
He also caught the attention of reporters after declining to wear a lapel flag anymore. He says there are better ways of showing patriotism than wearing a pin.
And he used to be the favorites among Republicans, later he was counted for dead, now he's back and on track. During Tuesday's debate in Detroit, John McCain promised to overhaul the unemployment system and retrain workers if he's elected president. But he said the Democratic solution to Detroit's problems will cause chaos.
"Tough times can breed fear, and Hillary Clinton and the Democrats are using those fears to push an agenda that is tired, dangerous, and will rob us of economic freedom. Once again they want the government to make our choices for us, "said McCain.
And while it seems that Hillary is getting attacked from all sides, this statement is in fact true. Giuliani, McCain, and Romney are attacking from the right and Obama and Edwards from the left.
Edwards even said, "there are differences between Senator Clinton and myself on the war in Iraq. I am not in favor of continuing combat missions in Iraq."
And Tuesday's Republican debate in Detroit was the first one for Fred Thompson. Some say he had a rough debate, others say he had a rough start, but a moment involving he and Romney made for the most memorable line of the week.
Romney said: "This is a lot like 'Law and Order' senator. It has a huge cast, the series seems to go on forever, and Fred Thompson shows up at the end. And to think I thought I was going to be the best actor on the stage."
