BOONVILLE - Residents were up early for the food, but they were not there for breakfast.

Volunteers at the Hot Dogs 4 Jesus food pantry in Boonville started handing out donations at 10 a.m., but Saturday morning a new face showed up. Congressman Kenny Hulshof visited the pantry as a campaign stop for his gubernatorial run. He wanted to commend the volunteers for providing food to Missourians who can't afford it.

Although, the pantry's doors just opened eight months ago, volunteers can already see the difference. Just last month, they provided food to 250 families, which translates into more than 700 people. The director of the pantry said that even though it's located in Boonville, the pantry's not just for Cooper County residents.

"We're open for anybody in any county," pantry director Jerry Husereaux said. "Feel free to come here and we can always use help - both financially and prayers."

Today, the pantry said they provided food for 167 mid-Missouri families.

If you would like to help out, you can send donations to:
