OXFORD, Miss. - The Mizzou baseball team shutout the Monmouth University Hawks 9-0 in the NCAA Regional Tournament Saturday.

Junior Kyle Gibson pitched eight innings for the Tigers and had eight strikeouts, tying him with current Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Max Scherzer for the most strikeouts in MU history.

More importantly, the Tigers lived to play another day and eliminated Monmouth from the regional.  They will play Sunday against the loser of the Mississippi/Western Kentucky game.

The Tigers scored nine runs on 15 hits, highlighted by three run frames in the fifth and seventh innings.  Aaron Senne went 3-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Steve Gray also homered for the Tigers and had three RBIs, and Kyle Mach had four hits.

The Tigers scored an unearned run in the second inning and one more in the fourth before the big fifth and seventh innings.  Senne's home run came in the eighth.
