A 75th anniversary is nothing short of heavenly, on a wing and a prayer, one Fulton school has some staying power.

For 75 years, they've woken up to worship, hands pressed together in prayer, fingers laced for the lord. And, for 75 years, they've barely been able to see over the pew in front of them; just because you have the wiggles, doesn't make your time in church any less devoted. It's the little feet swinging in the pews that keep this parish open. St. Peter Catholic School in Fulton has stood the test of time.

"It's a great tradition we have here in our parish," Father Karl W. Barmann said. "For 75 years, we've had a Catholic school here. This is our primary mission as far as this parish goes."

"It's an extended family all together," Principal Cindy Loftus said. "I think that's just fabulous, and I think that is what our staying power is. In a small school, you get to know everyone very well. Sometimes, it's almost like they're siblings - which is good and bad."

At St. Peter, they teach their students to live by the golden rule.

"It just rounds the whole child," Loftus said. "We teach everything."

With religion class daily and mass twice a week, these St. Peter Panthers are surrounded by Christ's teachings. First grader Teresa Hinchie delves into the life of St. Katherine during her school day.

"I don't know what I'm learning about, but I know I'm learning," Hinchie said.

Sam Galeskie, another first grader, gives the details of the days topics: "Math, word wall and penguins."

Over the years, there have been significant swings in enrollment.

"They had it as low as 40 students before and we've had it as high as 153," Loftus said.

Right now, St. Peter has 80 students in kindergarten through 8th grade and 39 in preschool.

"We're very proud of our school and we're looking forward to the next 75 years although most of us won't be around, I don't think," Barmann said.

These pint-sized Catholic school students are the future of this school.

This week is Catholic Schools Week across the country. St. Peter has some fun events planned for their students to commemorate the anniversary.
