NEAR MEXICO - A pickup truck caught fire in a body shop in Vandiver Village Monday evening, completely destroying the building and damaging an adjoining business.
Kenneth Hoover, fire chief for the Little Dixie Fire Protection District, said that the shop's owners were unsure as to why the pickup's gas tank ignited, but the investigation is still ongoing.
26,000 gallons of water were needed to fight the blaze, which brought in fire crews from Laddonia, Vandalia, Martinsburg, and the North Callaway Fire Protection District.
An adjoining upholstery shop sustained moderate damage.
Hoover said that the building was owned by Paul Hunt of Warrenton, Mo.
