At the same time, Ashland residents will benefit from a new source of water. While working with fire firefighters in Ashland, Fire Chief Roger Jaeger looks forward to a new and larger water tower, he says, will improve safety in his town.

"That protects the firefighters during the fire, so you dont run out of the water in the middle of the fire and also protects the community," Jaeger said.

The Southern Boone Fire District uses up 10,000 gallons of water to fight a typical fire while Ashland residents consume about 250,000 gallons a day. Right now maximum water capacity in Ashland is 300,000 gallons. Jaeger says the new water tower will benefit the entire community.

"We will be able to expand the community with the good water source and good water supply," Jaeger said.

The new water tower and well will be located just off of the intersection of South Henry Clay and Redtail Drive. The tower will be able to store about 750,000 gallons to one millions gallons of water. The site for the water was chosen last year after Ashland voters approved funds. A public works official says the state is the driving force behind the city's decision to build a new tower.

"Currently the state recommends that your storage should be about double the amount of the daily usage," said John Fraga, head of Ashland Public Works.

For the firefighters, plenty of water is always a good thing. The new tower will be funded by the city's three million dollar water and sewer loans from the state. The tower is to be built within the next couple of years.
