COLUMBIA - The public library unvieled a new mural today created by students.
You're supposed to be quiet in the library, but that rule didn't matter for fifth graders from Grant Elementary School on Thursday.
The students said they were excited to see their own art on display.
"I thought it looked really really good," Shea Milan said.
Last year, as fourth graders, the students practiced their art skills while learning about Missouri history.
"They did a little research to know what it was about and then they created a sketch that was turned into ceramic tile," Grant Elementary School Teacher, Amy Kollmeyer said.
A local artist helped turn the student's sketches into tile.
"We had a whole session or two where we sculpted the tile and then we painted the tile," Kollmeyer said.
"The Grant School mural is in the children's area of the Columbia Public Library.
Each student got creative about a topic in Missouri history.
"I made the governor's mansion," Jodie Bappe said.
"I did the MU columns," Shea Milan said.
"I did central dairy," Katherine Hammond said.
"It's a rams helmet," Ali Siddiqui said.
"I did an old fashioned bicycle," Kierra Headd said.
With pictures ranging from the state dinosaur to the state capitol, the fifty-eight tiles came together to show students' artistic talents.
The Daniel Boone Regional Library Foundation, Grant School PTA and parents funded the mural.
