FULTON - The students at William Woods University hosted a fundraiser Tuesday night called "Up 'til Dawn."

The fundraiser originally got its name from the parents who are up until dawn with their sick children, said Director of University Relations Mary Ann Beahon. The event took place in one of the university's dining halls and this year's theme was Las Vegas. The dining hall was decorated with scenes mimicking famous Las Vegas casinos.

Each person is encouraged to write 35 to 50 letters to friends and family asking them to support St. Jude. The students attend in rotations until they are finished writing their letters. This is event is a tradition at the university.

"William Woods has participated in the Up 'til Dawn organization since 2004," Director of Student Involvement Neil Stanglein said. Since William Woods began participating in this fundraiser, it has raised about $60,000.

The total number of attendees expected is about 230 people. "Our goal tonight is $24,000, which is double what we made last year," Stanglein said. The event is expected to go on well into the night.
