OKLAHOMA CITY- This week's edition of Blumberg Off The Bench comes from Oklahoma City, where the Missouri softball team just completed a record-setting season.
The Missouri softball team just completed a record-setting season. The Tigers set a single season victory mark with 50 wins and suffered just 12 losses, making it to the Women's College World Series for the first time in 15 years.
The early exit at the Women's College World Series has Missouri head coach Ehren Earleywine making some early predictions about next season.
"Next year we're going to get here again and we're going to come back and it's not going to be just happy to be here, this year I think it was... No matter what the players say I think they were just elated to be at the college world series but I can assure you that if 17 of these girls come back next season it's not going to be the same thing," said Earleywine.
"You know you kind of watch the teams that have been here and how they act and how they compose themselves before games and you just learn. It's a learning experience and we just hope to build on this," said sophomore Marla Schweisberger.
"You know I think this team will take a lot of lessons from this and how to handle fans and how to handle media and they're going to come back next year and they'll be back. They will be back," said senior Micaela Minner.
"They've got the talent you know I think with Chelsea you know she's only going to get better I think she can lead them back here for sure. There's lots of young talent with Marla Schweisberger, she's had an amazing year, Rhea, lots of girls that can do it for them," said senior Andee Allen.
"Oh I don't guarantee anything but I'll tell you this, we have the players and we have the experience and I think our destiny is in our own hands," Earleywine.
The team only loses four seniors: Lindsey Ubrun, Micaela Minner, Andee Allen and Stacey Delaney. That leaves 18 on the roster to return next season.
