COLUMBIA - The state games of mid-America has sixteen events for athletes throughout the Midwest, including dodge ball.
"I never really considered dodge ball a sport until we actually started playing," said Chance Kroesen.
Team Classic started playing together more than three years ago.
"We went every Sunday and played and we did that for almost six months, and we just kept all together and I mean this is all of us," said Austin Nedham.
"We go to Skyzone in Chesterfield, which is like dodge ball on trampolines," said Kroesen.
Whether on trampolines or turf, for Team Classic, its all about working together.
"We try just to get somebody when they're throwing." said Nedham. "We'll try to get someone from the side and hit them, just different stuff like that, have a couple people catching and a couple throwers, or sometimes we might even just wing it."
"Everybody needs to throw at once more than individually," said Robert Lacroix. "Because if you throw individually, especially on the big court over there, then you're going to get your balls caught and you'll get eliminated pretty fast."
"Somehow it works, we come together somehow, even though we're pretty unorganized," said Kroesen.
Last year it worked like a charm, Team Classic took home the Show-Me State Games gold.
"They came up here and won last year, that's my little brother that threw the ball at me," said Lacroix.
"If we win this we'll be in the championship, so we're hoping to go home with a gold again," said Nedham
And as long as Team Classic follows the five D's of dodge ball they'll have their chance to be back-to-back champs.
A team named the Five D's won the gold. Team Classic finished the tournament in third place, taking home the bronze medal.
