KIRKSVILLE - A new high-tech company moving to Kirksville plans to hire about 100 people.

At the Missouri Career Center in Kirksville, potential employees lined up at the crack of dawn to try and apply for the new jobs.

The Career Center's Supervisor, Cathy Collop, said she hasn't seen anything like it in a while.

"When Kraft Foods came in, we saw people lined up a block and a half away when we got to work that morning. The jobs are needed in the community and it's a wonderful opportunity," she said.

She estimated nearly 250 people came to the Center between 8 a.m. and noon to try and apply for the jobs.

Despite not receiving formal paper or electronic applications from Wi-Fi Sensors Inc. yet, Collop said interested applicants can leave their contact information and they'll receive a phone call or email telling them when they can come in and apply.

Vince Soto, a student at the Kirksville Higher Education Center, said he's excited about the opportunity to apply at Wi-Fi. A self-described electronics geek, Soto said he's banking on Wi-Fi's arrival so he can possibly earn more money doing something he enjoys.

"I usually take apart stuff for fun. My iPod, I had 2 different iPods, both of them were broken. One had a broken screen, the other had a scratched-up face, so I kinda put both together and made one work," said Soto.

Adair County has seen mixed economic news lately.  Its unemployment rate is lower than the state average, but has risen in the past few months.

Wi-Fi Sensors Incorporated has purchased the Hollister Incorporated building on Baltimore Street, and plans to occupy part of it while Hollister stays in its current location.

Hollister will lease its portion of the building and expects to continue manufacturing in Kirksville.
