COLUMBIA- The Columbia School District Administration created a proposal to save millions of dollars.
The Columbia School District Administration proposed budget cuts close to $5.2 million.
The superintendent of the Columbia School District presented a three-part reduction package to the Board of Education. There are different budget cuts in the three parts because it depends on whether a tax levy increase on the April 8 ballot passes or fails.
The school board and public have just over a week to review the list of budget cuts. The top cuts on the 54-item list are extending the curriculum review cycle, which saves almost $600,000, reducing instructional specialists to save $484,000, reducing textbook budgets saving almost $300,000 and dropping insurance for part-time employees.
Budget reductions will be made regardless of whether the voters approve the 54-cent tax levy increase on the April 8 ballot. However, the exact cuts won't be determined until after results are given after April 8.
