The Columbia Peace Coalition held a candlelight vigil where a few hundred people gathered on the steps to remember the events and people who died on 9/11. There were songs and speakers, lit up by the candles participants held.

The Columbia Peace Coalition wanted to promote peace instead of war. Speakers from local churches and organizations came and shared their views on 9/11. All opposed the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq since 9/11. One person who attended the vigil was touched by the event.

"It's so many different types of people coming together for a common cause and I always find that really heart warming and inspiring," said peace activist Victoria Day.

This year's vigil carries on a tradition. On Sept. 11, 2001, more than 300 people gathered at Peace Park for a candlelight vigil. Every year since, the Peace Coalition has sponsored the event.
