MOBERLY- A two-year drug investigation came to an end this week and more than 30 people are in jail facing drug related charges as a result.

The investigation involved undercover police from across Randolph County and surrounding counties, but most of the arrests were in Moberly. Of the more than 45 arrest warrants the county issued, about 10 suspected drug offenders are still on the streets.

Chariton County Sheriff Chris Hughes said the arrests are important for the safety of the whole community.

"That is a major, major step. With approximately 46 people, just out of this small area. Even with the county lines that are there, it affects everyone," said Hughes.

Police made more than 20 arrests on Thursday alone. The warrants are the product of a two-year undercover investigation by the North Missouri Drug Task Force.

The charges filed include 11 charges of distribution, delivery and manufacture of controlled substances, 12 charges of maintaining a public nuisance and 51 charges of distribution of a controlled substance near a school.
