JEFFERSON CITY - With election day quickly approaching, every endorsement counts.

The governors race is heating up with the election only 87 days away.

First, county leaders from across the state voted for who the Missouri Farm Bureau should endorse. Republican candidate Kenny Hulshof and Democrat Jay Nixon made their pitch. Hulshof won overwhelmingly by taking 96 percent of the vote.

Both candidates are promising a strong campaign, "What this organization stands for with my values and my principles, I am confident this is going to be a tough three months and we are going to buckle down," said Hulshof. "We feel really good about where the state is going to be, I feel like with my experience and my vision that we have got some big and serious problems to face," said Nixon.

The Farmer's Bureau has never endorsed a Democrat running for statewide office before.
