COLUMBIA - Missouri released population estimates last week divided by county.

Big numbers were reported for Boone County. The projected growth for Boone County is also significant.

The study was conducted for five year increments, and from 2005-2030. Boone County is projected for a 40 percent increase.

Ken Colwell of Millennium Construction Concepts noticed a trend.

"Probably out of the last 20 houses that we have built, I would say 18 of them are people who have moved in from out of town. We've only dealt with a couple that are actually just relocating here in town. Almost all of our business for the last several years has been that way," Colwell said.

Colwell said lately he has been concentrating in this subdivision.

"Well, you know, this house is almost done, but here's another empty lot, another empty lot here too, and from the looks of these plans, they're not slowing down any time soon." he said.

According to Missouri's population projections, people are going to be moving in to buy those houses. Boone County's population is going to increase by 58,500, a far greater projected increase than the surrounding counties.

"I see that the edge of the city will continue to move out, will incorporate more and more and more places into Columbia and Columbia will continue to grow," Trisha Lee of Remax Boone Realty said. "Everywhere you go there are new subdivisions and it just keeps pushing farther and farther and farther out."

Whether it is Columbia or not, Boone County is eighth on the list for largest projected county in Missouri by 2030. The universities inside Boone County did not effect the projection numbers.
