JEFFERSON CITY - Taxpayers used a little bit of history Tuesday to show their feelings about the economy.
The Boston-like "Tea Party" was one of many rallies for the Fair Tax Plan.
The Fair Tax Plan would eliminate the income tax and the IRS. It would replace those with a sales tax on goods and services.
The group Americans for Fair Taxation staged the event, hoping it sends a positive message.
"We feel that it is the solution for the current dilemma this country is in because it overhauls the entire revenue system for the federal government," said volunteer Ray Walker.
And while there was more than 100 people at the event, it wasn't just for taxpayers.
"My aunt, she's putting it together with them, and she invited me and my mom," said 13-year-old Kameron Weber, a Moscow Mills resident.
The Americans for Fair Taxation plans to continue its tea parties in the future.
"We will have a huge rally up in Columbia. It'll be for folks all over the nation. We're calling it the Midwest Fair Tax Rally," said Walker.
The big rally is set for June. There will be similar "Tea Party" rallies in Kansas City, Springfield, and St. Louis Wednesday when federal taxes are due.
