KINGDOM CITY - Many mid-Missourians gathered Friday to remember and honor those lost on Sept. 11.

A memorial in Kingdom City has bound Missouri together with New York City since the tragedy. Missouri firefighters raised money to build the statue in 2002. It is surrounded by names of Missouri firefighters lost while serving.

"There's only two like it in the U.S. and the world in existence, the one in New York still that will eventually be placed at ground zero, and then the one here at Kingdom City," Ken Hoover of the Firefighter Memorial Foundation said. "Kind of a unique deal, God works in mysterious ways, and we believe that's what happened here."

The Memorial Foundation is now raising money to build a museum next to the memorial. The museum would tell the individual stories of each firefighter who died while in the line of duty.
