KANSAS CITY - Forget the 34th place start and the problems in the pit, when it came to the final lap Carl Edwards sat in second place and dipped into his old bag of tricks.

"I get what I can while I can," said Carl Edwards after the Camping World RC 400. "I just figured 'Man, I am not going to be able to live with myself. It's going to be hard enough to sleep tonight, but I couldn't, there is no way I could sleep a wink if I didn't try something on the last lap.' So you got to try."

Edwards calls it a bonzai move, a move he has tried on video games.

"I kind of bonzaied in there. I wanted to make sure I cleared Jimmy, and I probably went just a little bit too far, and hit the wall a little harder than I planned on hitting it, and he got back behind me. It was fun. I have always wanted to try something like that. Now I know it doesn't quite work the same as it does in video games, but it was fun."

And a move he has seen in his dirt track days in Holt's Summit.

"Holt's Summit, Missouri, I remember one race in a sportsman dirt car, a guy named Danny Crane did that to me, and I was leading going down the back straight away, into turn three, last lap. Here comes this black 78 Camaro or whatever going plus 50 on me, and he slid in front of me and I thought 'Wow! He is going to make that work.' Then he went right off the end of the race track into the woods. So I felt like my buddy Danny Crane today."

No trees for Edwards, but he hit the wall hard enough for Jimmy Johnson to pass him in Kansas City and in the standings.

"Man, I just want to win this race. I wish we could start it again right now and run it again. But it was a good points day, that's the bright side."

With seven races left for the championship, Edwards hopes he has more tricks up his sleeve.
