AUXVASSE - Stray animals are getting a reprieve thanks to a new agreement.

The Auxvasse City Council signed a contract with the Central Missouri Humane Society, saving stray dogs and cats lives.

Animals at the Auxvasse Pound used to be euthanized, but now, they will stay for three weeks before being put up for adoption. The Humane Society will handle the adoption process.

Alderman Bob Shockley said he hopes the animals find happy homes.

"They will adopt them out. They have a lot more traffic of people wanting to adopt an animal, and here in Auxvasse, we don't have that," Shockley said.

If you are interested in adopting an animal from the Auxvasse Pound, contact the Central Missouri Humane Society.
