One viewer wants us to broaden our perspectives. This week, we look under the hood of our sports coverage. As one of our viewers raised a "checkered flag" and questioned KOMU's coverage of NASCAR.
Chris Giger wrote us to say, "I would like to say that your coverage of a NASCAR event is ridiculous. All that is ever shown is how Carl Edwards fared in the race. Let me remind you that there are 42 other drivers in the event and some of us would like to see more highlights of the race. I understand that Carl is the hometown hero, but I would like to hear more about the other drivers and more footage of the actual race instead of someone who finishes 40th."
"We want to get the Carl coverage in there because he is obviously the hometown hero, but we also want to let people know who won the race. You are going to see those two parts of it. We can't go in-depth on the race because it is a national event," sportscaster Eric Blumberg said. "As you will notice with all of our sports we care most about the local, then regional, then we will throw in the national. NASCAR gets some coverage because it's got Carl. If it didn't have Carl, it would probably get less and we would just let you know who won it. Now we are letting you know who won it and how Carl did. That's about how it has changed with Carl in NASCAR coverage."
By the way, the next NASCAR event is the Crown Royal 400 on May 3 at the Richmond International Raceway. Race to your computer and e-mail us your comments on our NASCAR coverage or anything else.
