It's not just a social networking tool. It's also a resource for local news.

Every day, KOMU reporters , anchors and weathercasters send out tweets.

These are messages that tell you about the weather, news, community service projects and sports. And sometimes, Twitter has that information before TV newscasts.

So is Twitter stealing the thunder from local news?

"Journalism is changing and it's really becoming more of a two way street between the media, journalists and the public. And Twitter is really great for enhancing that relationship. We can have an ongoing conversation about what we're working on throughout the day with our viewers and then they can in turn comment or give us tips on the news," said KOMU Executive Producer Holly Edgell.

"I think it's a great way to get out information as quickly as possible to people who may not have seen the morning newscast, who maybe don't have the time to sit and watch television to get the full forecast. It's a quick and instantaneous way for people to get that information," said KOMU weatercaster Michelle Bogowith.

"Well, the reason that I like to Twitter is that I think its a great way to let our viewers know something as soon as possible. There's no need to wait until the 6:00 or 10:00 sports cast. If I find some information out, I'm going to let you know right away," said KOMU assistant sports director Eric Blumberg.
