MIDWAY - Dine-in, carry out, or deliver, it's hard to tell who makes food the quickest.
Yet, there was one race to determine the winner. The 2008 Xtreme Cross Country.
The site: Midway Sandbar. The competitors: anyone with speed. The objective: survive through one run of extreme cross country.
Runners had to battle harsh windy conditions and roadblocks like Zombie Hill. But the biggest battle was between two long standing fast food competitors: Wendy and Ronald Mcdonald.
"The thought of Miss Wendy struggling behind me was very satisfying," said Tony Rigdon, who was dressed as Ronald McDonald.
"We go back a long ways," said Seth Fairfax, dressed in his best Wendy's outfit.
Ronald took a lead early, but Wendy closed the gap late. So who was the winner? Mustard, of course.
"I expected to dominate, that's what cheap yellow mustard does." says Benjamin Moore, who was dressed as a mustard container.
"Mustard is a zero calorie condiment, she has an obvious advantage," said Fairfax.
Ronald admitted, "Ketchup and Mustard ran past me, and that was difficult."
Mustard fired back, "There's a lot of demand for mustard, I can't be pleasing everybody. If Ronald wants to catch up to me he's going to have to do it on his own."
Mustard finished ahead of both Ronald, Wendy, and fellow companion Ketchup, thus claiming the title as the fastest food in Columbia.
